Summary

The 高田松原花火 (Takata Matsubara Hanabi), or Takata Matsubara Fireworks, is a new pyrotechnic event announced in 陸前高田市 (Rikuzentakata-shi), in Iwate Prefecture. It takes place at 高田松原運動公園 (Takata Matsubara Undō Kōen), in the coastal area of Takata Matsubara. This first edition is presented as a local project led by a new committee, with the support of the city, following difficulties encountered around the former Sanriku Hanabi project.

Access and landmarks

Location

高田松原運動公園 (Takata Matsubara Undō Kōen), Takata Matsubara sports park.

Address

〒029-2205 岩手県陸前高田市高田町曲松122 (122 Magarimatsu, Takata-chō, Rikuzentakata-shi, Iwate-ken), address provided by the official ticketing; to be verified with the final access map published before the event.

Landmark

The site is located in the 高田松原 (Takata Matsubara) area, near the reconstruction memorial park and the local symbol 奇跡の一本松 (Kiseki no Ipponmatsu), the miracle pine.

Access

Access should be prepared based on the official instructions for the edition. The site is located in the Takata Matsubara area, Rikuzentakata; depending on the mode of transport, you need to reach the city by car, bus, or train to nearby stations, then follow the traffic, parking, or shuttle arrangements announced by the organizer.

Event program

The Takata Matsubara Hanabi is announced as a full day of local gatherings around the fireworks. The official ticketing indicates site opening during the day, with activities and a gathering time before the nighttime show.

The highlight is the launch of the 花火 (hanabi), Japanese fireworks, scheduled for the evening. Official information announces a display lasting about one hour, with staging entrusted to Japanese pyrotechnic companies. The companies announced for the 2026 edition include 株式会社マルゴー (Kabushiki-gaisha Marugō), based in Yamanashi, and 株式会社ワキノアートファクトリー (Kabushiki-gaisha Wakino Art Factory), based in Fukuoka.

The event is distinguished by its local context: it is presented as a new civic and territorial initiative, designed to restore public confidence after the cancellation of 三陸花火大会2025 (Sanriku Hanabi Taikai 2025). It should therefore not be automatically confused with a new edition of Sanriku Hanabi until the organization and name continuity are officially established.

Practical tips

Photos

For fireworks, a tripod and long exposures allow better capture of light trails, provided the rules of the chosen area are respected. Drones are prohibited unless officially authorized, according to the organizer’s FAQ.

Weather

In October, evenings on the Sanriku coast can be cool and windy. Bring a warm jacket, moisture protection, and check official announcements in case of rain or strong wind.

Transport

Check traffic information, parking, and possible shuttles before departure. The Takata Matsubara area may experience significant restrictions on major event days.

Visitor tips

As this is a new event, it is best to closely follow the official website and city announcements. Buying tickets and organizing transport in advance will reduce surprises on the day.

What to bring

Entry ticket, parking or shuttle information, warm clothes, blanket or cushion, external battery, cash, and a bag to take your trash home.

History

The 高田松原花火 (Takata Matsubara Hanabi) is presented as a new fireworks event organized in Rikuzentakata, in the Takata Matsubara area. It is set in a city deeply marked by the Great East Japan Earthquake, 東日本大震災 (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai), and by the reconstruction efforts of the Sanriku coast.

The city of Rikuzentakata indicates that this new project is led by the 高田松原花火実行委員会 (Takata Matsubara Hanabi Jikkō Iinkai), the Takata Matsubara Fireworks organizing committee, with the cooperation of the city. Official communications distinguish it from the previous 三陸花火 (Sanriku Hanabi) project, whose 2025 edition was canceled and caused difficulties related to ticket refunds.

At this stage, the annual recurrence of 高田松原花火 is not yet confirmed by an official rule. The announced first edition should therefore be treated as a new local event, to be followed through upcoming announcements before presenting it as an established annual festival.
