Legal Notice & Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 20, 2025

1. General Information

Matsuri Guide is a non-commercial personal project dedicated to mapping Japanese cultural events: festivals (matsuri), markets, local celebrations, exhibitions, etc.

Publisher: Matsuri Guide
Hosting: Hostinger (France / Europe)
Contact: You can contact us via our contact form.

2. Mapbox Maps — Local Proxy

For privacy and GDPR compliance reasons, Mapbox maps are served via an internal proxy. This means the user's browser never directly contacts Mapbox: requests go through the Matsuri Guide server, which relays and caches tiles for 24 hours.

This cache is automatically cleared daily by a local script. Thus, no user IP address is transmitted to Mapbox.

To learn more, please consult the Mapbox Privacy Policy.

3. Analytics — Self-hosted Matomo

The site uses Matomo to measure traffic and improve content. The Matomo instance is hosted on the same server as the site and transmits no data to third parties.

  • IP addresses are anonymized.
  • No advertising cookies or external trackers are used.
  • Navigation data is stored locally and securely kept.

4. Personal Data (Contact Forms)

The site offers contact forms (in French and Japanese) allowing users to send us messages or propose events.

Collected Data:
  • Name or pseudonym.
  • Email address (required to reply to you).
  • Message content.
Usage and Retention:

This data is sent by email to the site administrator and is used only in the context of your request (replying to a question, adding an event). It is never sold, traded, or transferred to third parties.

Received emails are kept for the time necessary to process the request, then archived or deleted depending on the nature of the exchange, in accordance with legal retention periods.

To date, the site offers no user accounts or member areas.

5. Visitor Rights

In accordance with European legislation (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify, and delete your personal data.

To exercise this right regarding data sent via contact forms, you can write to us at the email address used for correspondence or via the contact form itself.
